What breaks am I entitled to at work?
UK law states that workers over the age of 18 have the right to one uninterrupted 20 minute rest break during their working day, if they work more than six hours a day. It’s stated that this could be a tea or lunch break.
While businesses can provide longer break periods in their employment contracts – and often do – we believe that the standard the government sets is far too low and completely inconsistent with the findings of various studies.
It’s safe to say that a much healthier ratio between work and breaks should be encouraged in order to create healthier workplaces and optimise productivity.
